Technoprint’s nominated charity: The Joshua Tree

minute read

Here at Technoprint, our community matters to us and we’re committed to supporting charities and organisations that are playing a vital role in improving lives and helping local people.

That’s why, each year, we nominate a charity that operates in the local area or that’s close to our hearts and doing amazing work.

This year, we’ve decided to support The Joshua Tree, a charity that provides crucial tailored support for families affected by childhood cancers across the North West and North Wales.

In our latest blog, we’ll look at how the charity helps families through such a difficult time and why we selected them as our chosen charity.

About The Joshua Tree

Based in nearby Sandiway, the charity was set up in 2006 after founders David and Lynda Hill’s son Joshua was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Thankfully, he made a full recovery but following the diagnosis, they discovered that there was a lack of support services available for families affected by childhood cancer.

Since then, the charity has gone on to support over 400 families and provide them with tailored emotional and practical support services that suit the family’s specific needs.

How the charity supports families

The Joshua Tree provides bespoke support programmes that help to improve the emotional wellbeing and mental health of both immediate and extended family members who are affected by childhood cancers.

As part of their programmes, the charity offers different areas of support to children and families with focus varying from emotional well-being to educational assistance.

For parents and relatives, there are opportunities for one-to-one counselling sessions that can help them to explore feelings and express their thoughts and any anxieties they may have in a safe environment.

Meanwhile, the charity offers extensive provisions for siblings, with group play sessions, art therapy and opportunities for one-to-one sessions with a member of the family support team.

In terms of educational support, the charity aims to break down the barriers to learning that treatment can bring, by offering advice and information to schools on how they can still help children to reach their potential academically and emotionally while undergoing treatment.

Additionally, The Joshua Tree also provides much-needed programmes for fitness and nutrition that aids a child’s recovery. By working with a nutritional adviser, the charity is able to provide safe guidance on healthy eating, while a child’s appetite is compromised by treatment.

What’s more, they also offer fitness and well-being support to the young people they work with by funding personal training sessions, access to the gym and a physical health programme.

Why supporting the community matters to Technoprint

Chosen by our staff, The Joshua Tree does vital work in our community and wider region, and amid the cost-of-living crisis they need our support more than ever. Throughout the year, we’ve been raising money to and receiving generous donations in a bid to support the charity.

Last year, we supported the Mid-Cheshire Foodbank by raising money and running collection campaigns that both staff and local residents contributed to. At Halloween, we provided enough Halloween bags and selection packs for every child that the Foodbank supports.

We’re proud to be a part of the Winsford and Mid-Cheshire community and we want to make a positive impact in the local area by giving back as much as we can.
