Apprentice Photo Diary – Chloe.
minute read
As it is National Apprenticeship Week (#NAW2016) we thought we’d ask Chloe our office apprentice what her average day is like.
Chloe started as an office-based apprentice at Technoprint at the end of June 2015.
08.30 – My first task of the day is to ensure that all jobs are in order and set my overall tasks for the day. I then prepare the jobs that are due to go into production that day. First-thing can be very busy in our industry as many people start the day by placing orders. Therefore by 9am we can have several to process already. I will have a morning production planning meeting where we discuss everything planned for that day and the upcoming week.
09.30 – Now I need to set up all artwork so it is print ready and then send back to our customers as a pdf proof. It is my responsibility to ensure the customer has approved the proof before we go to print. I amend any artworks that require a change and gain the customer’s feedback.
11.00 – I prepare all the paperwork for the job – which we call a job bag. The completed job bags go over to production so it’s time to pop on all my protective clothing!
After all artwork is approved, prepared and checked, I can print the plates. This involves using two different types of equipment which at first seemed daunting but very soon I was able to use both confidently.
13.00 – After lunch I might have a meeting with my tutor to review how my college work is going. I’m studying for my exams too, as part of my Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration.
14.00 – Production meeting. This is a meeting for everyone involved in production which highlights any issues and challenges in production. It is also an opportunity for any improvements about how we run a job to be suggested.
15.00 I will now prepare some estimates that need processing and also book in orders received. Throughout the day I also answer the phone and of course the most important part of working in an office – make everyone a cup of tea!
16.30 – Time to go home!
